Hermes Agent alternative: a managed agent you don't have to run

Hermes Agent by Nous Research is one of the most interesting open-source agents released this year: persistent memory, skills it builds from experience, cron scheduling, dozens of tools. We know because we ran it for our own business. This page is what we learned about the gap between installing it and living with it, and what we offer people who want the outcome without the operations.

What Hermes Agent is

What Hermes Agent actually requires

01

An always-on gateway you keep alive

We ran ours on our own infrastructure. It stopped on August 5 and stayed down until a human noticed. Uptime is a job, and it is yours.

02

Judgment about what to automate

We tried social posting on cron. We switched it off within a day: an unattended agent publishing on your behalf needs more supervision than doing it yourself. Autonomy is easy to grant and hard to trust.

03

Your keys, your accounts, your risk

Model keys and platform tokens live on your box. A self-improving agent with broad tool access multiplies what a single mistake can reach.

04

Care and feeding of state

Memory and skills accumulate in its home directory. That state is an asset you must back up and a behavior you must audit when the agent surprises you.

05

Hours you will not get back

None of the above is hard for a developer. All of it is recurring. For a business owner the honest unit is hours per month, indefinitely.

Questions we get

01 Did you actually run Hermes Agent?
Yes, on our own infrastructure, for our own business, including cron-scheduled tasks. The lessons on this page are from that experience, not from reading the README.
02 Is Hermes Agent bad?
No. It is impressive, free, and moving fast. The point of this page is that its price is operational attention, which is the scarcest thing a small business owner has.
03 Is this managed Hermes hosting?
No. We build narrow agents on the Claude Agent SDK, scoped to one task each. If what you want is Hermes itself, self-host it. If what you want is a routine gone, that is us.
04 What does it cost?
A €390 one-time setup and from €99 per month covering hosting, model usage within a fair-use cap, and maintenance. The free feasibility check states the exact price before you commit to anything, and the setup is invoiced only after you have seen the agent working on your own case.
05 Can it do what Hermes does?
For one defined routine, yes, and more predictably, because it does nothing else. If you need a general assistant with open-ended skills, a managed narrow agent is the wrong product, and we will tell you so in the assessment.
