HONEST COMPARISON

OpenClaw alternative for small business owners

OpenClaw (formerly Clawdbot, then Moltbot) made a personal AI assistant something you can run on your own machine, and it deserves the attention it gets. This page is not a takedown. It is the honest checklist we wish we had seen before recommending self-hosting to busy business owners, and what we offer the ones who read it and say no thanks.

What OpenClaw is

What OpenClaw actually requires

01

A server that is yours to babysit

A VPS or always-on machine, secured, patched, and monitored by you. When it goes down at 2am, it is your 2am.

02

Your own API keys everywhere

Model keys, chat platform tokens, tool credentials. You issue them, you rotate them, you carry the blast radius if one leaks.

03

Keeping up with releases

A fast-moving project means fixes and breaking changes arrive weekly. Updating is a recurring chore, skipping updates is a security decision.

04

A security posture

An agent that can read your mail and act on your accounts is worth attacking. Sandboxing, allowlists, and prompt-injection hygiene are your responsibility.

05

Hours, ongoing

Setup is a weekend. Staying set up is the real cost: config drift, plugin breakage, model changes. Budget hours every month, not once.

Questions we get

01 Is this OpenClaw hosting?
No. We build and run our own narrow agents on the Claude Agent SDK. You get the outcome a self-hosted assistant promised for one routine, without operating anything.
02 Why one task instead of a general assistant?
A narrow agent is predictable, auditable, and hard to break. General assistants are powerful but their failure modes are open-ended, which is exactly what a business does not want unattended.
03 What does it cost?
A €390 one-time setup and from €99 per month for hosting, model usage within a fair-use cap, and maintenance. Heavier verticals are priced above the base, stated in the free assessment. The setup is invoiced only after you have seen the agent working on your own case.
04 Can I move away later?
Yes. Cancel with 30 days notice. Your data and the agent configuration go with you.
05 I already run OpenClaw. Should I switch?
If it works for you, keep it, honestly. People come to us when the maintenance stops being fun or when they want a specific business routine handled with a firmer boundary than a general assistant gives.
